GSDF Logo and slogan: "There is Someone to Protect"

There have been many famous Self-Defense Force recruitment campaign videos in the past, but rarely are they from the Ground Self-Defense Force.The Air and Maritime Self-Defense Forces, being somewhat divorced of the greatest shames of the legacy of World War II and far less obviously militaristic than the GSDF have simply had a much greater share of the limelight.

The current GSDF recruitment video is as close to the drama and excitement of its Western counterparts than ever. This 3-minute version of the video which has been in circulation since last year is worth a gander – notice the emphasis on fighting for someone rather than oneself (Be All You Can Be, Army of One, Be the Best):
