I’m a little under the weather right now, so just a quick post. Here’s something from the GSDF YouTube channel approximately one month old.

1. The video actually stresses the combat role of the SDF rather than the other, less military, roles the SDF has been known to tout. Peacekeeping and disaster relief don’t even show up until at least 2/3 of the way through.

2. The video highlights the elite of the GSDF, the 1st Airborne Brigade, and shows how those in GSDF jump school graduate from tower jumps to static line jumps from C-1 transports.

3. MILES training. The GSDF is getting serious about force on force training.

4. About four instances of runners on motorcycles doing dirt donuts. It seems no GSDF promotional video is complete without at least one of those.

Check out the .50 machine gun (M-2) box magazine at the 7:22 mark. Looks like it came straight off a M-16 AA Half Track, except it’s on a Type 82 NBC Reconnaissance Vehicle.

Regular posting will resume in 2-3 days.

Note to GSDF PAOs: It’s okay to start releasing video in 720p, guys. The cameras only cost ¥15000, tops.
