A week ago it was the People’s Liberation Army Navy. This time it’s the U.S. Navy and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, in a passing exercise off the coast of Okinawa. Apparently both navies were holding the bilateral exercise Multi-Sail which concluded April 16th. The Chinese were in the neighborhood, as far as I can tell, April 7-9.

JDS Suzunami, DD114 (pictured far left) was one of the ships that shadowed the Chinese fleet.
