This article’s a few years old but still interesting. Curzon from recounts a visit of his to a Self Defense Forces recruiting center in Tokyo. Specifically, in Shibuya, by the Bic Camera. (If you’ve seen the film Lost in Translation and remember the dinosaur scene, this place would be about a block from there.)

It’s hard to imagine such a recruitment center in the middle of Shibuya would get much foot traffic. I’ve been to Shibuya many times and like many places in Japan, it mostly caters to young people, especially young women, out for a day of shopping. Not exactly SDF material.
