The U.S. – Japanese exercise Undersea Warfare 2010 is also going on right now. I can’t find much about it, but the caption for this photo is:
EAST CHINA SEA (Jun. 20, 2010) – Capt. Daniel Grieco, left, executive officer of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), explains how aircraft are moved around the flight deck to Rear Adm. Hiroshi Yamamura, commander of Escort Flotilla 4 of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Yamamura is embarked aboard George Washington to participate in the Undersea Warfare Exercise (USWEX). George Washington, the Navy’s only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, is supporting security and stability in the western Pacific Ocean. Apparently George Washington is going to the Yellow Sea after the conclusion of this exercise, where it will make China and North Korea nervous.
